Funding for Music Making Activities

Grants are available to support projects that provide music-making activities for children and young people in support of Youth Music's goals. Youth Music will fund any non profit-making organisation more than one year old, committed to music-making activities for children and young people up to 18 (or up to 25 if they have special educational needs, disabilities or are in detention).

The Skinners’ Company Lady Neville Charity

Small charities and not for profit organisations working in the areas of disability, local heritage, local community and performing and visual arts can apply for funding through the Lady Neville Charity grants programme. Eligible organisations can apply for grants for items of non-recurring expenditure (eg equipment, an event, a particular element of capital building works). Grant making committees are held in May and November each year. Applications need to be received six weeks prior to the meeting date, therefore mid-March and mid-September should be treated as deadlines.

Hilton in the Community Foundation Grants

Hilton in the Community wants to really make a difference to disadvantaged children’s lives. They support efforts in four key areas of need: disabled children; children in hospital; homelessness and life-limited children in hospices.

Woodward Charitable Trust

The Woodward Charitable Trust, which is one of the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts, is inviting applications from UK registered charities working with or in the areas of: social and ethnic minority groups; prisoners and ex-offenders; homelessness; violence and abuse; arts outreach; disability; and the environment. Every year, the Trust makes about 50 grants through its small grants programme and around 5 awards through its large grants programme.

Big Voice Competition

The Big Voice Competition is open to groups of between five and eight students working together to develop innovative yet practical ideas on diversity and inclusion in the UK. Big Voice will provide a film crew, and then will show the film on giant screens in city centres around the UK as part of the build-up to the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games. All winning proposals will receive the same support: 3 days of shooting with a small crew equipped to a professional standard, plus 30 hours of post-production services. Each film will be given a budget of £1,000.

Barclays Community Sport Award

A new monthly award to recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals and groups that use sport to benefit communities across the UK. Each award winner will receive £1,000 for their group or organisation, a limited edition trophy and will be entered into the end of season award to win a further £5,000. Nominations can be made for any individual, group of individuals or not-for-profit organisation.

Young Roots

The scheme aims to involve 13-20 year-olds in finding out about their heritage, developing skills, building confidence and promoting community involvement. Projects must show how young people are managing and participating in the project. Projects should develop partnerships between youth organisations and heritage organisations, and should promote social inclusion and equal opportunities by involving a wide range of young people of different abilities and cultural backgrounds.

Nationwide Foundation Small Grants Programme

For charities that support groups from deprived areas. Priorities currently include: to support older people who face financial exclusion in order to help them achieve improved quality of life; to support survivors of domestic abuse to build their financial capability in order to help them live independently and achieve improved quality of life; to support survivors of domestic abuse to live independently and achieve improved quality of life; to support older people with their housing needs.

The Mark Leonard Trust

Not for profit organisations and organisations with a charitable purpose can apply for funding through the Mark Leonard Trust. The Mark Leonard Trust is one of the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts and focuses on environmental education in the UK. In particular the Trust seeks to support projects that focus on: finding practical ways of involving children and young adults; sustainable agriculture and bio-diversity; sustainable transport, energy efficiency and renewable energy; and youth work that supports the rehabilitation of young people involved in anti-social or criminal activities.

Westhill Endowment

Westhill Endowment offers grants to support community-transforming projects with strong underlying Christian values that transform people’s lives, foster empathy between communities and build bridges between people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Westhill Endowment's objectives are the promotion of education in the manner which reflects the principles of the Christian religion and the tradition of the historic free churches and the promotion of dialogue and educational interchange between the Christian Church and other living faiths.

Gregg Foundation Grants

Local not-for-profit organisations can apply for grants through the Greggs Foundation regional grants programme. The regional grants programme is administered by committees of volunteers from Gregg shops, bakeries and offices who are based in England, Scotland and Wales. They use their knowledge of the local area to make small grants to local organisations, in particular those that make a difference to people in need in the heart of Greggs' local communities. The Greggs Foundation prioritises local organisations that help people in need in their local area.

Cash 4 Clubs

Sports clubs that are registered with their sport’s national governing body or local authority can apply for grants. Cash 4 Clubs is a sports funding scheme which gives clubs a unique chance to apply for grants to improve facilities, purchase new equipment, gain coaching qualifications, and generally invest in the sustainability of their club. There are three tiers of grants at £250, £500 and £1,000.

O2 Programme for Young People

The O2 programme supports projects by young people (13 - 25) that have a positive impact upon their community. The new programme Think Big will offer young people grants as well as training, support and mentoring from a number of youth charities. These include the National Youth Agency and UK Youth. Examples of projects that could be supported could include fighting knife crime, starting local youth groups, teaching skills to other young people or renovating community spaces. Eligible projects should be run by young people for young people.

The David and Elaine Potter Foundation

The David and Elaine Potter Foundation is a charitable family foundation established in 1999 to encourage a stronger, fairer civil society. The trustees are interested in lasting social change, and in forming long-term partnerships with the organisations the Foundation supports.
