Filefax Supported File Types
The list below lists all the file type attachments supported by the Filefax Internet fax system. For further information you may also wish to view our Service Help:
Please note: When sending a file with an extension, which is not its native extension, as defined below, will result in a rendering error. In addition, the Filefax system also supports read-only files. For as long as we can open the file and read it, we can deliver the file as a fax.
Microsoft Word (.doc) including 97, 2000, XP and 2003.
Microsoft Excel (.xls) including 95, 97, 2000, XP and 2003.
Please note: All non empty worksheets within the attached file will be sent (on separate pages), with the Excel sheet name used for each page title each time.
Portable Document Format (.pdf) including 1.0 - 1.6 and Acrobat 7.
TIFF Images, including multi-page (.tif/.tiff) including TIF Groups 3 & 4.
JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg)
TXT - (ASCII Plain Text) .txt is a filename extension for files consisting of text that contain very little formatting such as no italic or bold characters. Such file types that end with the .txt extension can be read or opened by using any program that reads text.
HTML - HyperText Markup Language
Please note: When sending an HTML page it is best to save the page and either attach to your email, or recreate the page within the body of your email message and Filefax will deliver the email exactly how we receive it.
RTF - Rich Text Format.
Zip - This file format is primarily used as a data compression and archive format file. Therefore any of the listed file types that are compressed within a zip file will need to be attached seperately for Filefax to process them for fax delivery.
PNG - Portable Network Graphics.
BMP - The BMP file format is an image file format best used to store bitmap digital images, especially on Microsoft Windows and OS/2 operating systems.
GIF - Graphics Interchange Format.
MS Office formats
Please note: Presently we do not support the new Office 2007 formats (those ending with an 'x', such as .docx and .xlsx). When trying to attach and sending these file types, the 'fax being processed' email returns to the sender displaying a “bright red” warning explaining that these file types are not supported, and then asks the User to resave and retry sending the fax.
Open Office formats
Please note: OpenOffice files are currently not a Supported File type. However, we advise all Users to resave their documents as MS Office counterparts before sending so that the Open Office Writer, Calc and Presentation files become Word, Excel and Powerpoint files respectively. This also applies to MS Office 2007 users who need to avoid the docx, xlsx and pptx file formats. Once this change is made to the file types, we can process these files for fax delivery.
We also suggest that when saving an image as a supported file type we suggest either a JPEG or PNG file format instead of the default bitmap image. This is because both JPEG and PNG are smaller in file size.
For the best results in sending in monochrome we recommend that you ensure that your text fonts are not too small or they will be reduced in size with the resolution.
